I'm not a student any more, but still love to study: Psychology, Anthropology, Criminology, etc. Basically, it's all about the "why" for me. There's nothing quite as rewarding for me as getting inside a character's mind and picking apart their feelings and motivations. Perhaps for this reason, I write a lot of angst, hurt/comfort, and friendship fics. Few better vehicles for getting into a character's head, and I find little that's more rewarding. I mainly write fanfic, but am also at work on a few original stories which I hope to get published one of these days. *crosses fingers*
On a personal note (like anyone cares), I'm in my late twenties, a pagan and practicing witch (no flames or attempts to save my soul, please), until 27 March 2009 a full-time caregiver for a terminally ill relative (now back on the job-market after three YEARS out of the saddle), and an avid watcher (and writer) of science fiction and fantasy. I have Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Anthropology (specialization in archaeology), and an Associate's in Medical Assisting. I'm considering eventually going back to school, either for a new degree in teaching or to continue my studies in Anth/Arch or Psych. I'd love to eventually become one of those bookish types who's a fixture at the local university where they seem to have studied everything and is known to everyone as brilliant but eccentric (okay, so brilliant may be a bit of a stretch, but I have it on good authority from my friends that "eccentric" is a tad of an understatement).
A few quotes that I find meaningful, profound, or just plain amusing:
"Assuming makes an ass out of you and some dude named Ming." -- Hinoryu
"Women and geeks first. No, wait, that's all of us..." -- Henry Foss, "Sanctuary"
"There is evil, ever around, fundamental System of government quite incidental." -- Eva Peron, "Evita"
"The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity." -- Yeats, "The Second Coming"
"What we think, we become." -- The Buddha
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not touched by the frost." -- JRR Tolkien, "The Lord of the Rings"
"Some high ground is not worth taking and some connections are not worth making. There's an old Church bell no longer ringing and some old songs are not worth singing." -- Bono, "North and South of the River"
“Faith makes things possible. It does NOT make them easy.” -- Anonymous
and, finally, some plot-bunnies (since images of plot-Nubbins are just hard to find for some reason):
